Stampa migrante: periodicals of the Italian community of Egypt, 1892-1940 (EAP1474)

Aims and objectives

Stampa Migrante aims at digitising, divulging, and preserving the deteriorating periodical collection of the Italian Archeological Center (CAI) currently housed at the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) in Cairo, Egypt. Both textually and visually rich, this collection includes newspapers published in Italian in Egypt between the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. Its holdings provide a unique source of information on the history of Italian immigration into Egypt as well as the larger migratory movements through the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Moreover, this collection constitutes a privileged gateway into unexplored aspects of modern Egyptian history.
