Unveiling and preserving the Egyptian cinema and theatre history (EAP1559)

Aims and objectives

This project aims to reveal a concealed fragment of Egyptian art history. It will digitise and catalogue the Egyptian Cinema and Theatre Photo Collection, taken between 1913 and 1952, as well as make it available online to researchers and scholars. The collection, suffering from some chemical and physical deterioration, silver mirroring and some scratches, is now housed in drawers in the archive. The collection includes 804 photographs in 18 albums that are essential for the study of the history of performing art in Egypt.
