Preservation of ritual history through digitising ritual manuscripts in the Kathmandu Valley, and eastern and western Hill Districts of Nepal (EAP1508)

Aims and objectives

This project intends to identify, survey and digitise ritual manuscripts in three locations of the Kathmandu Valley, and eastern and western hill districts. 'Ritual' covers religious, life-cycle and other rituals that have a long history. The reason behind focusing on ritual manuscripts is its prominence in Hindu and Buddhist religious as well as life-cycle ritual practices. The latter also has various forms within the structure of 'Dasha karma' which is losing cultural value. Rituals of all forms are gradually disappearing in the present century. This project will help to preserve them in written records and later encourage society to preserve history.
